I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and those chiles used to show up in our yard even though we never planted them. My father used to eat them raw. One year he picked a whole jarful and pickled them the way you pickle jalapenos. They were so hot they were inedible as a condiment. That poor jar of chiles sat in our pantry for years.
